Always walking, always taking pictures.
I have been walking across cities as a photographer for over 50 years, looking ahead, glancing aside, crouching
down or looking up. Be alert, be swift or wait a moment, for light, shadow and shape to delightfully convene. As
Philadelphia photographer Harvey Finkle has said, “When you see it and feel it, then you have something.”
Color and black & white speak in different photographic keys. Add color to black & white, as a painter or
printmaker, and you have "split tones," reminiscent of techniques from the old darkroom era.
Viewing photographs is similar to the act of photographing and walking the city. You wander and wonder,
then a certain beauty, humor or drama, surprisingly, aligns with something inside of you, personally...Click!
